Connecting creativity with opportunity, everywhere
Links

There are plenty of innnovation resources out there, our aim is to point you to those which we think could be useful in helping you develop and progress your ideas and concepts. We cannot possibly cover all the material out there and the omission of any resource is usually for this reason. We may add comment if we think that it helps and will certainly appreciate your own suggestions and opinions to share with the MYGi community.

We will feature links to relevant commercial sites (at our discretion!), these can be displayed with small graphics or just in higher profile but there will be a sensible charge for this.

Do send your suggestions and comment to support@mygreatidea.com.

1. General Innovation and Useful Background Information

"The Future of Innovation" Edited by Bettina von Stamm and Anna Trifilova, Gower Publishing UK (2009). ISBN: 9780566092138 - MYGi says: a fascinating collection of thoughts from over 200 international innovators covering almost every possible angle. Very readable, stimulating and thought provoking.

"Fast Track to Success - Innovation" by Andy Bruce and David Birchall, Pearson Education Ltd UK (2009). ISBN: 9870273719885 - MYGi says: More a business book but very easy to read and the structure applies to individuals and organisations.

"Innovation and Entrepreneurship" by John Bessant and Joe Tidd, John Wiley & Sons UK (2011). ISBN: 978-0-470-71144-6  - MYGi says: Second edition of this definitive textbook aimed at business students but suitable for all.

"The Myths of Innovation" by Scott Berkun, O'Reilly Media (2010). ASIN: B0026OR2PE - MYGi says: The reviews were so good that we couldn't wait and bought the Kindle edition. So far it's living up to expectation; a very interesting, useful and pragmatic look at innovation which breaks it down into bite size chunks of reality.

"Leadership for Innovation" by John Adair, Kogan Page Ltd (2007). ISBN: 0749448008 - MYGi says: All about how to organise team creativity and harvest ideas.

2. Creativity and Ideas

"How to Generate Great Ideas" by Barrie Hawkins, Kogan Page Ltd (1999). ISBN: 0749427612 - MYGi says: An easy to read little book for self help or team building.

"How to get your Ideas adopted and Change the World" by Anne Miller, Mashall Cavendish (2009). ISBN: 0462099296 - MYGi says: It's a bit heavy going in places but if you persevere you will be rewarded with many useful insights from real life experiences and intelligent take on the subject.

3. IP and Patents

World Intellectual Property Organization (www.wipo.int) - MYGi says: An excellent resource for global innovators with free patent searching and extensive useful content including individual country resources.

United States Patent and Trademark Office (www.uspto.gov) - MYGi says: A bit utilitarian visually but very useful for searching and retrieving full text documents.

European Patent Office (www.epo.org)

European Network of Patent Databases (www.espacenet.com) - MYGi says: Very useful portal to access any national patent office and search worldwide patents.

UK Intellectual Property Office (www.ipo.gov.uk) - MYGi says: In addition to searching there is plenty of useful and interesting information about IP including a business IP health check.

State Intellectual Property Office of the People's Republic of China (www.sipo.gov.cn)

Russian Federal Service for Intellectual Property, Patents and Trademarks (www.fips.ru)

Japan Patent Office (www.jpo.jp)

4. Project Planning and Project Management

MYGi says: There are so many publications on this subject. Few address the needs of the inexperienced innovator but they can't go wrong by starting with the excellent small "how-to" book below:

Project Management by Peter Hobbs, DK Publishing (2009). ISBN: 0756641993

5. Marketing and Commercial

MYGi says: There are plenty of textbooks and business books to be found but we are keen to hear about really useful "how-to" simple guides.

6. Fund Raising and Finance

7. Regional, National/Government and International Policies and Support

8. Innovation Member Organisations

9. Other Useful or Interesting Material

"If it ain't broke...BREAK IT!" by Robert Kriegler and Louis Patler, Warner Books (1991). ISBN: 0446393592 - MYGi says: A timeless classic from the former CEO of Hewlett-Packard which "debunks....and challenges you to mess with success" and should help "unlock the creative thinker in you".

10. Innovation Showcase

11. Funny Stuff

"The Dilbert Principle" by Scott Adams, HarperCollins (1996). ISBN: 0752224700 - MYGi says: Not specifically about innovation but highly pithy and funny takes on those likely to surround your innovative business. Still great to dip into for a chuckle and scaringly accurate in many places.
